Seen it all before in Melbourne's beautiful Bayside?
Have you seen it all before in Melbourne’s beautiful Bayside?
Been for a cheeky Parma at the Sandringham Yacht Club as the sun dips down over the water? Spent many a sunny afternoon at the quaint beach of Half Moon Bay in Black Rock and watched the waves break over the Cerberus? Driven past the Sandringham Band Rotunda on your way to a walking track further down the road?
I thought I had seen all there was to see in Bayside, where the water meets the sand. An ocean lover at heart, I walk the trails, swim in the water and sit on the sand all year round. Yet recently, while creating my Bayside portfolio, I found some really special places I had previously overlooked.
1. Sandringham Yacht Club
If you’ve lived in the area for any length of time you’ve probably enjoyed a meal at the Sandringham Yacht Club. But if you’ve been down onto the sand and around to the water side of the building, you’d be rewarded with this rugged and rustic sight. I had to lie down in the shallow waters to capture this beauty.
2. Around the corner from Half Moon Bay
Eating fish and chips as the sun sets at Half Moon Bay is a Melbourne tradition. This gorgeous bay is famous for its off shore wreck the HMVS Cerberus. With safe swimming and many amenities, it is a very popular place to spend a lazy summer afternoon. But have you ever strolled just around the corner to the south? Here you will find intricate rock formations and sandstone cliffs. Until a friend took me here, I had no idea the wonderful finds that lay just around the corner.
3. Near Sandringham rotunda
Until recently, I never knew this beauty was here. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock? Between the Band Rotunda and the Playground sits a coastline so desolate it seems like it could be from another planet. The beauty evident in the textures of the rough, eroding cliffs is offset against the scarce vegetation to create a stunning contrast.
In conclusion...
Our Bayside backyard is pretty spectacular. We should celebrate our amazing coastline more. You could do this by dressing your walls with an incredible artwork that brings the outside in to your space.
